     IMHO, the problem is real simple. The VSWR board on the STL 
essentially has no directivity. It really cannot distinguish between 
forward and reflected and different Z's. As someone else said, a 
wattmeter cannot measure the impedance.

     For ham radio use, one wattmeter stands out, and that is the 
telepost LP-100A. It's detector heads have a current and voltage sample. 
Very accurate. I would trust this unit for a 1 KW am station.

     The Marti STL meter, not so much. Use it only as a reference for 
something changing.
