The .Net Framework *may* be required by some other software you want to use.
It isn't harmful and won't slow your machine down so it's safe to keep.

Silverlight is a browser enhancement. You may encounter websites that will
want to use it. It isn't harmful and won't affect your machine's
performance.

SQL Server? It does use resources and unless you are running other software
that requires it, will serve no purpose. Make sure nothing else uses it
before you remove it.

Virtual PC allows you to create "virtual PC" machines. You probably don't
need it.

Visual Basic 2010 Express is development software (which, coincidentally,
would use SQL server and could use Virtual PC). If you don't develop
software, get rid of it.

Microsoft Visual C++ and Visual Studio are also software development
systems. If you don't program, you don't need 'em.

You can uninstall all these items with the Add/Remove programs applet.

Hi!!!

Can somebody tell me if it is absolutely necessary to load the following
components into Windows XP:
1) Microsoft .NET Framework,
2) Microsoft Silverlight,
3) Microsoft SQL Server,
4) Microsoft Virtual PC,
5) Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express,
6) Microsoft Visual C++, and
7) Microsoft Visual Studio?

If they aren't necessary at all, Can I eliminate them from the PC? How?
