It's possible you're getting interference to the receiver from some 
external source, but my approach to solving problems is to fix the 
obvious things first.  I'd go after the problem of the L.O. in the 
transmitter and see if that doesn't magically fix the problem of the 
received signal.  Receive problems can certainly be caused by 
transmitter problems.

Let us know what you discover.
