I would just run an ad in the home town newspaper where the unit was
manufactured, for any one who worked at the plant to contact you.
"REWARD OFFERED" to any one who worked at this plant....
Please contact.....
You hopefully will find someone who knows someone who worked there, and knew
the guy who did the coding on this item, and who probably has the original
notes.
Code like this can be reversed engineered. But the notes make it 1000x
easier.
Good luck. I am afraid in my old age I loose enthusiasm for such time
consuming highly focused projects to "make work" for myself.
However if you really feel this piece of abandoned equipment has a following,
you can then copyright the "better" code, and find the followers and admirers
of this piece of equipment and see if they would help defray your expenses
for making the item more functional.
As far as a lawsuit for infringing upon this copy righted code.... This is
where you invite a law suit, as what we are trying to do is get the idiot who
wrote the code into court so we can interrogate him to find out why he abandoned
all these folks that bought his product. Please invite me to appear as a
witness, I am sure he will not like my attitude he will probably go home crying...
73's and good luck.
