Sorry to be so late in chiming in on this. I just bought a new
laptop computer. I new from the very start that I did not want
Vista. I'm really not into being the first on the bandwagon for
things like this. I immediately needed my "new" computer as a tool
and not as a science project.
I was able to find a company that would sell me a new Asus A1 with
XPpro. The computer came with Vista but they were fine with removing
that and installing a new, registered copy of XPpro and giving me the
new disc along with putting the XPpro sticker on the computer and a
copy of all the drivers - This in trade for the Vista disc and
sticker. I'm very happy with the new computer and it's really fast
using Delorme's Topo Quads.
So, it can be done.
