I wouldn't take $3,000 for any of my HU961's. Since that
unit (unlike others I've tested) outputs good ole plain ASCI
text at the time of the test, you can truly make a SILK
PURSE out of a SOW'S EAR. Here's what you do:
1. Use an old laptop instead of a serial printer.
2. Install wscap.exe on the laptop (free, if desired, use
link) http://noncomradio.net/dl/c/wscap.exe
3. Enter the LP1, 2, 3, on the Channel query, as well as
your own station calls for channel 0.
When the tests happen (send or receive) the HU961 outputs
serial data right then and there which is then automatically
written to a folder WITH the addition of a header line
showing the "channel" (LP1 etc) and the computer's date and
time, making the Hollyanne julian day moot.
A counter in large font counts up to nine tests, so that as
you walk by, you can see from a distance the activity to
date that week. It resets Sunday 00:00:00 hours.
With several inspections at several stations, alternate and
actual, no problems were raised.
I just bought a spare on Ebay. It has the 1.1 Eprom, but we
can clone 1.4 code which has Amber and whatever else they
changed.
So this is the other side of the Hollyanne HU961 story.
Were it not for these mods, I'd recommend them for the land
fill too.
